Overview

Anbaric is a project development company located near Boston, MA that specializes in early stage development of large-scale electric transmission systems (especially controllable DC lines) and small, medium and large scale microgrid projects.

The confluence of transmission and microgrid projects is no accident. Because Anbaric has learned that transmission projects are extraordinarily difficult to permit, develop, finance, and build, it has gained a deep appreciation for “non-transmission alternatives” (NTAs).  Because Anbaric is skilled at understanding where transmission  should and should not be developed, it has become skilled at understanding where microgrids should be developed.

Moreover, microgrids (more than transmission) present a revolutionary technological potential: the space where high technology meets the massive electrical distribution system. Anbaric believes HVDC transmission projects will largely be developed to connect large-scale renewables to the existing grid, while microgrids will modernize the grid “from the inside out” (from the distribution sector to the bulk transmission sector).

Smaller, Cheaper, and More Resilient

Anbaric’s Edward Krapels and Clarke Bruno discuss the rationale for developing microgrids in the April 2013 issue of Public Utilities Fortnightly. (html)

Anbaric Launches Microgrid Development Company

As a transmission developer, Anbaric understands how difficult it is to build transmission, and that non-transmission alternatives (NTA) need to be developed wherever possible and economical. Microgrids often represent the most compelling type of NTA, and Anbaric is applying the project incubation and development skills honed in transmission development to NTAs in the United States and abroad.
